Holy Saturday: A Prayer and Family Activity

Crosspointejupiter   -

Nestled between Good Friday and Easter Sunday is what historically is called Holy Saturday.

My friend Pastor Danny Slavich put it this way: In between the catastrophe of Friday and the eucatastrophe of Sunday is the almost unbearable waiting of Saturday. We live in Holy Saturday world. A world in waiting. A world groaning in between rebellion and resurrection. Holy Saturday shows us that God is speaking even while he seems silent, working even while we’re waiting. That a day of darkness seems unending, but it only seems that way; that God gives us time and space for broken-hearted lament. In fact, it shows he requires it.

So while we live, lament and wait in a “Holy Saturday world” we have faith, hope and love to sustain us as we await “Resurrection Sunday”.
Holy Saturday Prayer:
O God, Creator of heaven and earth: Grant that, as the crucified body of your dear Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. – Book of Common Prayer
