Advent_Preparing for Sunday (11/29/20)

Brian Sullivan   -

Advent in the Christian tradition drives at anticipation; preparation. The Old Testament people of God were eagerly awaiting the Messiah who would rescue and deliver them. Jesus is the messiah, Emmanuel, God with us. Observing Advent allows us to not only joyfully remember Christ first coming, but gives us an anticipation for his return (Rev. 22:20).

This Advent we will focus on how the arrival of Jesus answers our deepest longings in life: our longing for Jesus’ promises to come anew into our lives (hope); our longing for God to move in our lives (joy); our longing for a Savior (peace); and our longing for all things new (love). We will see how the longings themselves are God’s gifts to us. We will show how Jesus’s arrival and eventual return fulfills our deepest needs of peace, joy, hope, and love.
