Preparing for Worship: 5/31/26

Join us as we look at Luke 8:26-39 and Jesus POWER & AUTHORITY over evil. It is the middle account in a "trilogy" of Jesus power - first over creation, then over evil and ultimately over death.
The healing of the demoniac follows the quelling of the storm (8:22-25) in all three Synoptics. Both narratives dramatically portray the power and compassion of Jesus to rescue people from chaos and destruction, whether in nature or in human nature. In so doing, both narratives press readers, as they pressed the original participants, for an adequate and ultimate understanding of Jesus. In the former account the disciples ask, “Who is this man?” who calms the storms (8:25), and in the sequel comes the answer from a demoniac in Gentile territory, “He is the Son of the Most High God” (v. 28).
